“I offer my respectful obeisance to His Holiness Srila Bhakti Aloka Paramadvaiti Swami Maharaja who, as a sannyas, travels around the world delivering divine love (sudha bhakti) to devotees who belong to the line descending from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati through Srila Prabhupada and Srila Sridhar Maharaja, rendered in the form of a sannyasi.”
Following the request of His Divine Grace Bhaktivedanta Atulananda Acharya Maharaja, His Divine Grace B. A. Paramadvaiti Maharaja initiated Prabhuji. In Miami, USA, he gave him his first initiation, a brahmana initiation, and finally in 2005, sannyasa diksha. In this way, he confirmed his connection to Srila Prabhupada and to the line of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Srila B.A. Paramadvaiti Maharaja, was born on October 12, 1953, in Osterkappeln, Germany, to a family of educators. From a very early age, restlessness manifested within him over injustices towards other human beings. At the age of 17, he sought to understand yoga through the study of the Vedas, and gave himself to the strict regulations of monastic life.
He is a direct disciple of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. After having been initiated in Paris by Srila Prabhupada in 1972 under the name Alanath Dasa Bramacharya, he served his master by helping him distribute the message of Lord Chaitanaya Mahaprabhu throughout Europe and America.
At the age of 24, he received the sacred order of sannyas, or “renunciation.” His sannyas name is Bhakti Aloka Paramadvaiti Swami. The life of Guru Maharaja has been very dynamic as he has occupied himself continuously with opening centers and spreading the transcendental message of the Vedas.
Paramadvaiti Swami is the founder of the Institute for Higher Vedic Studies in America and the Vrinda Institute in India with centers all over the world. He is the co-founder of the World Wide Vaishnava Association that helps with communication between the different transcendental families that are located around the globe.
He has written many books such as: The First Spiritual Master in Colombia, The Free Woman, The Bhagavad Gita: The Supreme Science; Initiation: The Second Birth, as well as books about ecology, meditation, and the history of Vaisnavism; yoga courses, and many pamphlets and articles about current issues and problems in the world. He also edited the Confidential Science of Bhakti Yoga, The Secrets of a Yogi, Mysterious India, and many others.
He maintains many websites in German, English, and Spanish. Srila Guru Maharaja is involved in a great variety of activities that require his continuous attention as a lecturer and tireless advisor on communal life based on spiritual and ecological principles.
Apart from being a monk and the founder of more than 100 yoga centers, he is an artist and the founder of the Harmony School of Conscious Arts. He participated in the production of numerous artistic documentaries, and has written and directed musical and theatrical projects. He also designed and constructed projects with profound symbolic meaning and ecological art such as the Eco Truly Ashram planetarium in Lima, Peru. Guru Maharaja was the first Western monk to open centers in India, where he established a restoration project of the beautiful gems of Vaishnava architecture such as the famous Vrinda Kunya that served as an oasis for Spanish speaking pilgrims and which is especially dedicated to offering the services of the Vaishnava academy to all his students and disciples arriving from America.
He is presently traveling throughout America and Europe, giving lectures in English, German, Spanish and Portuguese; broadening the understanding and distribution of transcendental literature. He is involved in the vegetarian society and many programs of social concern.
Through his loving way of presenting the Vaishnava teachings, he has created affectionate bonds with many people including kings in India and important personalities in politics, art and religion. What is even more rare is that he has obtained recognition for all of this without reducing his qualities of humility, purity, wisdom, simplicity and his sincere desire to help others.
